Glow in the dark

We heard the elk keening again after dark last night. The sound was coming from the meadow to our south. So we got in the truck and drove that way trying to see them in our headlights. No luck. They must have been farther away.
But we discovered that the blue needles on blue spruce glow in the headlights like a white shirt in black light.
Who knew?
